Wasn’t it Christmas only last month?
November already. Gaaah! It seems like only a few short weeks ago Whale and I were planning our annual extra-special Christmassy drinks day/evening. But no that was almost 12 months ago now - eeeek!
With Halloween now over and bonfire night only a few short days away it's going to be the season of office parties and soapy tit wanks (again). Don't get me wrong - I do like the run up to the holidays; going out for drinks with colleagues, throwing cake at them and stealing their ties but I can't help but feel so disappointed with the actual "big day" itself.
You spend so long roaming the shops, wrapping stuff and generally buying far too much toilet roll than you could ever possibly use during the festive season that it's no wonder the day is one big let down. When you think of all the money you've shelled out on pressies, and you get back a couple of bottles of bubble bath you can't but help thinking you've been diddled somewhere along the way. Which is why my family came up with a cunning plan: we all agreed to make stuff!
Every year instead of buying expensive presents, we do the Blue Peter thing and get the sticky tape out. I've both given and received some truly one off pieces of artwork (in the loosest possible sense). My personal favourite to make was Christmas pants filled with cinnamon-smelling pot pourri. Drawers for your drawers. Y-fronts for the chaps and frilly numbers for the ladies. Every year my sister and I exclaim "I've made you a present that money just cannot buy!" and it's true - you really couldn't. No really, you couldn't.
So come on, more bubble bath and socks or something inspired this year?
