That just about sums up the last month or so.

First the pc develops a little problem. Then I do. Now it's the pc again.

There I was, happily burning CDs, when it crashes. When it's rebooted itself, half the drives on it aren't working and the hardware connected/disconnected sound is looping incessantly. I presume it all has something to the CD burning; perhaps it all got too much for the poor thing? Or maybe it doesn’t like my taste in music.

I saved most of my data, and re-installed windows. Big, bad mistake!
More and more problems follow, including the constant restarting of windows. I ring my pc helpline (nurg!!), who are based in India, naturally. They tell me I've got a virus and to get a patch off the web. Except I can't, because the pc keeps switching itself off! I ring them again, and am told I to disconnect from the internet totally and that I need to buy some software from them to fix the problem. I get a special discount, so I pay £24.99 instead of £35. Oh, and it could take up to 45 days to arrive. Nice.

It did turn up a lot sooner than that. But I seemed to have quietly conquered the problem beforehand. Although, I haven’t a clue how. I managed, somehow, to download various anti-virus software and sasser – for that was what I was told I had – fixes. Everything I used/ran found no sign of any virus. On installing this "magic" piece of software, a firewall as it turns out, from the pc people, all problems seem to have stopped completely. Still utterly puzzled though. And yes, I’ve updated my anti-virus regularly. Still found nowt!

About the same time this all started, I stopped being able to sleep properly at night. It wasn’t down that problem though. I think I had some weird bug myself. Felt lousy, couldn’t sleep, experienced problems breathing at one stage, and hot all the time, nightly sweats are not pleasant. Then the catarrh took up residence. Great!

It has all passed now. Sleeping like a baby, just not like a baby.

New problem/grief today: my CD-ROM drive has broken. The trap/draw/whatever it's called, that you put your CD on and then slides into the machine is, well, unattached. It’s sat on my desk as I type. I’ve been quoted £23.50 for a brand, spanking new one. Trouble is, I haven’t the foggiest how to remove the old and install the new. And I really don’t want to spend more money on it. Christmas is coming after all!

Harrumph! (If that's not how you spell that, could someone tell me how it should?)
